Govt working to ensure reliable water supply in Sonawari

JAMMU: Government today informed the Legislative Assembly that it is actively working to complete the Retrofitting of Water Supply Scheme (WSS) SK Bala under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Dudwan area of Sonawari Constituency.

This was informed by Minister for Agriculture Javid Ahmad Dar in the House while replying to a Calling Attention Motion moved by MLA Hilal Akbar Lone regarding water supply in Dudwan Saderkote Bala in Sonawari Constituency. He was replying on behalf of the Minister for Jal Shakti, Javed Ahmed Rana

The Minister said that strenuous efforts are underway to complete the remaining work of the scheme in order to ensure reliable piped water supply to Sonawari.

Elaborating, the minister said that the scheme, based on a borewell source, is presently under execution, with electro-mechanical works and laying/fitting of rising mains to the Service Reservoir at Dudwan in progress.

The Minister informed that as an interim measure to cater to the demands, the department is providing water through deploying tanker service on a scheduled roster.

It further informed that, regrettably, on 26th March 2026 while on a routine duty, an unfortunate incident occurred wherein a minor girl got killed. An FIR has been registered, and a formal investigation is underway, he said.
