Dr Farooq calls J&K Statehood restoration delay as unjust

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah, Tuesday, expressed serious concern over the continued delay in restoring full-fledged statehood for Jammu and Kashmir.

While meeting party functionaries at his residence, Dr Farooq described the prolonged postponement of this constitutional right as deeply unfortunate and warned that it risks eroding public trust in democratic institutions. He emphasised that the restoration of full statehood, long assured by the Government of India, is not a concession but a fundamental right, and withholding it has left the aspirations of the people increasingly unfulfilled.

Addressing the functionaries, he said that such delays create a growing sense of disenchantment and underscore the urgent need for credible and responsive governance. He urged party workers and office bearers to continue engaging with citizens, amplifying their concerns and highlighting the importance of dignity, democratic rights and political empowerment.

Reaffirming the National Conference’s steadfast stance, Dr Farooq stressed the party’s commitment to peaceful, democratic advocacy aimed at securing full statehood and restoring faith in the political process for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
