Nuzhat Gul declares 10th J&K UT Softball Championship open in Jammu

JAMMU: Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul, on Saturday declared the 10th J&K UT Softball Championship 2025-26 open at the football ground of GGM Science College.

The three-day championship is being organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Softball Association and has drawn participation from 14 districts of the Union Territory.

More than 450 athletes and officials are taking part in the championship in sub-junior, junior and senior categories for both boys and girls, men and women.

Addressing the participants, Nuzhat Gul said the Sports Council was taking several steps for the promotion and development of softball and other sports in Jammu and Kashmir. She noted that softball, being an Olympic and Asian Games discipline, has considerable potential in the Union Territory.

She said the sport has gained momentum in recent years and is spreading to different parts of Jammu and Kashmir. She also appreciated the efforts of the organisers in promoting sports culture in the region.

Javed Ur Rehman attended the opening ceremony as the guest of honour. Officers of the Sports Council, district unit heads, international softball players and sports enthusiasts were also present.

The championship will conclude on March 31.
