Satish Sharma attends Chib Dev Sthan Mela in Akhnoor

Akhnoor: Minister for FCS&CA, Transport, Youth Services and Sports, IT, Science and Technology, Satish Sharma, on Friday, attended the annual mela at the revered Chib Dev Sthan, where thousands of devotees gathered to celebrate the region’s cultural and spiritual traditions.

The Minister was accorded a warm welcome by local residents, members of the organising committee, religious heads and prominent citizens. The mela witnessed participation from devotees across Jammu and Kashmir, reflecting the strong faith associated with the historic shrine.

Satish Sharma paid obeisance at the shrine and prayed for peace, prosperity and well-being of the people. He also participated in traditional rituals and interacted with devotees, taking note of the customs and practices preserved over generations.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister highlighted the importance of safeguarding Jammu and Kashmir’s cultural heritage, stating that such congregations serve as vital platforms for preserving indigenous traditions and strengthening community bonds.

“Events like the Chib Dev Sthan mela reflect our deep cultural roots and shared heritage. They play a crucial role in preserving traditional values and passing on our legacy to future generations,” he said.

He stressed that in an era of rapid modernisation, it is essential to protect and promote traditional gatherings while ensuring the continuity of local customs and practices. He called for collective efforts involving the government, communities and cultural organisations to document and preserve these traditions.

The Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to preserving and promoting cultural and religious heritage sites across Jammu and Kashmir, adding that steps are being taken to improve infrastructure, accessibility and facilities for pilgrims while maintaining the sanctity of such sites.

He also directed the concerned authorities to ensure proper arrangements for future events, with focus on cleanliness, safety and basic amenities for devotees.

The event concluded with traditional rituals, devotional performances and cultural activities, showcasing the rich heritage of the region.
