Srinagar: The authorities have decided to continue “precautionary restrictions” across all districts of Kashmir on Tuesday as well to maintain peace, and prevent any untoward incidents, officials said.
News agency KNO quoted a “senior security official” as saying that the decision has been taken in view of the prevailing situation and to ensure that law and order is maintained across the Valley.
“Restrictions will continue tomorrow as a precautionary measure. The situation is being closely monitored and necessary measures are in place to maintain peace,” a senior official said.
He said that security forces are manning sensitive locations, while senior officers are reviewing the ground situation.
The restrictions were in place on Monday too with police and security forces deployed in strength at all sensitive locations.
In the backdrop of the killing of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatullah Kahemnei, the authorities had imposed precautionary restrictions on Monday to ensure that no untoward incident takes place.
Schools and colleges have been closed and scheduled exams postponed while as mobile internet speed has been throttled as a precautionary measure, officials said.
Authorities have imposed restrictions to curb people’s movement, shut down education institutes and throttled mobile internet speeds in the Union territory as precautionary measures.
Protests and mourning assemblies for Khamenei were also held in the Kargil district of the Union Territory of Ladakh. A large number of Shia mourners assembled at the Hussaini Park in Kargil to take part in the protest.
Police urge restraint, warn of action against miscreants
Kashmir Zone Police on Monday appealed to the public to maintain peace and exercise restraint in view of recent developments in the Middle East.
In a post on X, police said while citizens have the right to peacefully express themselves through lawful means, incidents of rioting, stone-pelting, clashes and disruption of public order at some places are unacceptable.
The police said violence and destruction of property lead to injuries, loss of life and often result in restrictions, closure of educational institutions and hardships for families, traders, students and daily wagers.
Appealing to all sections of society to refrain from provocation and unlawful activities, police warned that strict legal action will be taken against instigators and those involved in disturbances.
Authorities, the police added, remain committed to upholding the rule of law and protecting life and property.
Div Admin urges restraint, thanks public for maintaining peace
The Divisional Administration Kashmir on Monday appreciated the cooperation of people from all communities in maintaining peace and upholding law and order across the Valley.
In an advisory, the administration acknowledged the constructive role played by citizens in preserving communal harmony and supporting authorities in ensuring normalcy.
People have been urged to exercise restraint, strictly follow advisories issued by the local administration and refrain from circulating unverified information on social media and other digital platforms.
The administration also advised the public to rely only on official sources for updates and appealed for continued cooperation in maintaining peace.

Security forces told to avoid convoy movements
Authorities on Monday directed all security forces to avoid movement of convoys in Kashmir in view of the protests triggered there by the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a US-Israel joint air strike, officials said.
With the ongoing protests causing law and order problems, Tuesday shall remain a “dry day” for the movement of security forces’ convoys in Kashmir, they said.
Movement of administrative vehicles of the forces has also been restricted. (PTI)
