Srinagar: Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Faz Lul Haseeb, on Monday inspected the Achan dumping facility to review solid waste management operations and ensure adherence to scientific processing and disposal standards.
During the visit, the Commissioner assessed the waste management chain, including source-level segregation, material recovery, mechanical processing and engineered landfill operations. He also reviewed leachate management systems, environmental monitoring protocols and progress made under legacy waste bio-remediation and phased site reclamation initiatives.
Stressing compliance with Solid Waste Management Rules and environmental norms, Haseeb directed officials to strengthen scientific processing through systematic segregation, resource recovery, bio-processing and controlled landfill management. He also emphasized efficient use of machinery, real-time monitoring and continuous operational upgrades to minimise ecological impact and safeguard public health.
Reaffirming the Corporation’s commitment to improving waste management infrastructure in Srinagar, the Commissioner said time-bound measures would be taken to enhance processing capacity, modernise facilities and ensure environmentally compliant disposal practices at the Achan site.
Senior officers of the concerned departments accompanied the Commissioner during the inspection.
