District Administrations observe two-minute silence to honour freedom martyrs

SRINAGAR: District administrations across Kashmir on Friday observed a two-minute silence to pay rich tributes to the freedom martyrs who laid down their lives for the independence, unity and integrity of the nation.

In Kupwara, the District Administration observed a two-minute silence in remembrance of the brave martyrs. Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Shrikant Suse, along with officers and officials of the district administration, participated in the solemn observance, paying heartfelt tributes to the selfless contributions of the freedom fighters. The administration reaffirmed its commitment to uphold the values of patriotism, unity and service to the nation, inspired by the sacrifices of the martyrs.

Similarly, in Shopian, a solemn programme was organised at the Mini-Secretariat to commemorate Martyrs’ Day. The event was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Shishir Gupta, who paid rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and other martyrs. Officers and officials observed a two-minute silence in memory of those who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the country. The gathering recalled the ideals of truth, non-violence, peace and social harmony, which continue to inspire the nation. Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr. Nasir Ahmed Lone, ADC Dr. Zakir Hussain Faaz, ACR Shakoor Ahmed Dar, along with other officers and officials, were present on the occasion.

In Ganderbal, a two-minute silence was observed across the district to honour the martyrs. The main event was held at the Mini-Secretariat Ganderbal at 11:00 am under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Jatin Kishore, who joined the Union Territory-level observance virtually. Officers, officials and staff members participated in the tribute with dignity and reverence, remembering the supreme sacrifices of the nation’s brave sons and daughters. On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the importance of remembering the sacrifices of freedom fighters and reaffirmed the collective commitment to uphold the values of unity, peace and patriotism.

The observances served as a reminder of the selfless service, courage and dedication of the martyrs whose sacrifices paved the way for India’s freedom.
