PD&SJ Ganderbal chairs 1st UTRC meeting of 2026

GANDERBAL: Principal District & Sessions Judge (Chairman District Legal Services Authority), Ganderbal, Abdul Nasir, today chaired the 1st Under Trial Review Committee (UTRC) meeting of 2026, here.

The meeting aimed to ensure the timely review and release of undertrial prisoners, thereby promoting their rights and access to justice.

Jatin Kishore, District Magistrate, Ganderbal; Khalil Ahmad Poswal, Sr. Superintendent of Police, Ganderbal; Sheikh Babar Hussain, Secretary DLSA, Ganderbal, DySp, Central Jail, Srinagar, In charge Subsidiary Jail Dignibal, Ganderbal; Public Prosecutor, Sessions Court, Ganderbal; Public Prosecutor, Addl. Sessions Court, Ganderbal and Deputy, LADC Ganderbal attended the meeting.

The Under Trial Review Committee (UTRC) reviewed the cases of 26 prisoners shortlisted by the Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Ganderbal, for consideration. After thorough consideration, the committee decided to recommend 25 prisoners for release.

The meeting underscored the commitment of the District Legal Services Authority, Ganderbal, to uphold the principles of justice and ensure the rights of undertrial prisoners are safeguarded.

DLSA remains dedicated to promoting access to justice and protecting the rights of the marginalised and vulnerable sections of society.

The recommendations made by the UTRC will be forwarded to the competent authorities for necessary action, and it is expected that the release of the undertrial prisoners will bring relief to the prisoners and their families.

District Legal Services Authority, Ganderbal, will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that justice is served and the rights of all individuals are protected.
