Srinagar: The Indian Army on Tuesday marked the 10th Defence Forces Veterans’ Day with a series of events and welfare initiatives across multiple locations in the Kashmir Valley, reaffirming its enduring commitment to the well-being and dignity of its veterans and their families.

The commemorative programmes were spearheaded by the Chinar Corps and executed by its constituent formations, including the Dagger Division, Vajr Division, Counter Insurgency Force (Kilo), and the Jammu & Kashmir Light Infantry Regimental Centre. The events focused on honouring veterans, Veer Matas, Veer Naris and their families for their invaluable contribution to nation-building, while also addressing their concerns with sensitivity and respect.

Ex-servicemen rallies were organised at Srinagar, Drugmulla, Uri, Chak Kigam, Manasbal, Langate and Haiderbeg. Senior military officials interacted with and felicitated the veterans and their families during these gatherings, which witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 1,000 ex-servicemen and nearly 50 Veer Matas and Veer Naris, along with their family members.

The programmes were designed to provide practical assistance by facilitating the resolution of issues related to pensions, documentation and medical support, besides spreading awareness about various government welfare schemes. The initiatives offered a crucial platform for veterans and their families to engage directly with military and civil authorities, ensuring timely and effective redressal of grievances.

The observance of Veterans’ Day across the Valley stood as a reflection of the nation’s deep gratitude towards its ex-servicemen, whose sacrifices have strengthened India’s sovereignty. The Indian Army reiterated its resolve to further enhance efforts aimed at supporting those who have served the country with valour, dedication and honour.
