Committee on Privileges discusses legislators’ privileges, protocols

JAMMU: The Committee on Privileges on Monday held its meeting at the Assembly Complex, Jammu, to discuss the issues related to the protocol and privileges of Legislators.

The meeting was presided over by the Chairman of the Committee, MLA, Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, besides Legislators, Vikram Randhawa, Riyaz Ahmad Khan, Salman Sagar, Sheikh Ahsan Ahmed (Pardesi), Javaid Riyaz (Bedar), Javaid Iqbal, Dr Narinder Singh Raina and Dr Bharat Bhushan were also present.

The Committee discussed and reviewed the present status of its earlier observations concerning the Warrant of Precedence issued by the Hospitality & Protocol Department. The Committee expressed concern over the pendency of the matter and emphasised the necessity of keeping the Committee apprised of the action taken on its recommendations.

Administrative Secretary, Hospitality and Protocol Department, Niraj Kumar; Secretary, Law Department, Achal Sethi; Secretary, J&K Legislative Assembly, Manoj Kumar Pandit besides other concerned officers were also present in the meeting.

Niraj Kumar apprised that the recommendations of the Committee have been discussed in a meeting held under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary attended by the Commissioner Secretary, GAD, Secretary Law and other senior officers of the concerned departments. He also apprised the Committee that the recommendations of the Committee have been taken up with the Chief Minister and after the approval the matter shall be placed before the privileges Committee.

Secretary, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs also briefed the Committee on the subject.

The members of the Committee gave their valuable suggestions to make the Committee more vibrant and result oriented.
