Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Civil Engineering Graduates Association (JKCEGA) has welcomed the recent placement of senior engineering officers in the Public Works (R&B) and Jal Shakti Departments, terming the move a timely and far-reaching administrative initiative.

In a press statement issued here on Tuesday, the Association expressed its sincere appreciation and gratitude to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, and his government for what it described as a thoughtful step aimed at strengthening the administrative and technical leadership of key infrastructure departments.

JKCEGA also conveyed its gratitude to the Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for PWD (R&B), Surinder Choudhary; the Hon’ble Minister for Jal Shakti and Forest, Ecology & Environment, Javid Ahmad Rana; Additional Chief Secretary, Jal Shakti Department, Shaleen Kabra, IAS; and Additional Chief Secretary, Public Works (R&B) Department, Anil Kumar Singh, IAS, for their leadership and coordinated efforts in issuing long-awaited promotion and placement orders against available vacancies.

According to the Association, the orders include appointments to critical leadership positions, comprising one Engineer-in-Chief, eight Chief Engineers in the Public Works (R&B) Department, ten Superintending Engineers, and eleven Executive Engineers in the Jal Shakti Department. These appointments have been widely welcomed by the engineering fraternity as a morale-boosting and progressive step.

JKCEGA noted that the placements are expected to strengthen institutional leadership, improve decision-making efficiency, and enhance the delivery of public works and essential services across the Union Territory.

While expressing satisfaction over the developments, the Association urged the government to fill the vacancies that have arisen at the levels of Superintending Engineer (R&B), Executive Engineer (R&B), Assistant Executive Engineer, and Assistant Engineer in both departments due to the recent placements and retirements. It also called for the expeditious regularisation of long-pending cases on a priority basis to ensure administrative stability, continuity, and sustained morale among engineers working in the field.

Reiterating its commitment to constructive engagement, JKCEGA said it would continue to work with the government and administration in the larger interest of professional excellence, institutional strengthening, and the holistic development of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
