Srinagar: Police have cracked a major livestock theft case in Pulwama and recovered stolen sheep, a police spokesperson informed Thursday.
He said police have recovered 47 sheep that were stolen from Banderpora during the intervening night of 17-18 November 2025. These sheep were traced and recovered from Kulan Kangan, Ganderbal.
During sustained investigation, police arrested two accused — Abdul Razak Bajad, son of Mohammad Shafi of Kandiyal Akhnoor, and Mohammad Jeelani Barghat, son of Mohammad Zar of Dova Rajouri.
Three other accused — Mushtaq Ahmad Khari, son of Baugh Hussain of Thandi Choi Akhnoor; Nazakket Ahmad Bokda, son of Mohammad Zubair, resident of Akhnoor, at present Wahab Sahib Khrew, and Mohammad Jaleeni Barghat, son of Mohammad Motwali, resident of Sugli Gala Kalakot Rajouri, are still evading arrest. Efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the absconding accused, police said.
It said the recovered livestock is being transported back to Pulwama for legal formalities and restoration to the rightful owner.
