Kulgam, July 20: Residents of Badroo Village of district Kulgam are facing water scarcity due to the defunct water filtration plant in the area.

Locals of Badroo Village told ‘Kashmir Images’ that they have been compelled to rely on impure water from past several years. “After generating funds at our own level, we managed to install a pipeline which is connected to a Nallah nearby. The water in the Nallah is not safe for drinking.”

“Every day the dead bodies of animals can be found floating in the Nallah, the water of this Nallah is supplied to half of the Badroo village,” the locals said adding that 8 years back, a water filtration plant was constructed in their village but it has not been made functional yet.

“While as half of the village receives the water supply from Demidola Badroo water filtration plant, which is located in Kokergund village of District Kulgam, but from last 3 days no water was supplied to the village due to the strike of PHE Employees,” they added.

One of the local residents of Badroo Village, Manzoor Ahmad Wani, said that earlier authorities had promised the villagers here that the water filtration plant will be given final touch in 2015, but nothing has been done so far.

While talking to Executive Engineer PHE Division Kulgam, Nazir Ahmad Jaral, he said, “Now when the PHE employees in Kokergund have called off their strike, the residents of Badroo Village will receive regular water supply from today.”

When asked about the defunct water filtration plant in the area, he said, “I will take appropriate action in this regard.”
