Srinagar: The Indian Army today paid rich tributes to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives while repulsing a Fidayeen attack at the Public Relations Office (PRO) in Badami Bagh Cantonment, Srinagar, in 1999.

In a solemn ceremony held at the PRO office, officers and personnel from all ranks gathered to honor the memory of Major P. Purushottam, Subedar Brahm Dass Sharma, and four other soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice on this day twenty-six years ago.

Major P. Purushottam, who was then serving as the Public Relations Officer (Defence), along with his comrades, bravely fought heavily armed terrorists who stormed the office on November 3, 1999. In the face of grave danger, the team displayed exceptional courage, protecting journalists and civilians present at the site during the attack.

Their gallant actions saved innocent lives but cost them their own. The Indian Army continues to draw inspiration from their valor, dedication, and selfless service to the nation.

“Their sacrifice is a constant reminder of the courage and commitment of our soldiers who defend the nation’s integrity with unmatched devotion,” an Army spokesperson said at the ceremony.

Wreaths were laid and a two-minute silence was observed in remembrance of the martyrs. The event concluded with the reaffirmation of the Army’s pledge to uphold the ideals for which these bravehearts lived and died.
