“As the PDD employees are supposed to take readings from the electric meters at the end of each month but they remain absent from their duty very often and it is us who have to bear the brunt of it,” they alleged.

They further said that the number of units consumed by a household as shown on the electric meters does not match with the number of units being shown on the electricity bills.

One of the residents of village Murtaza Amin said, “Last month when I received the electricity bill, I was shocked to find that we have been charged 3 lac 87 thousand rupees for only 150 units. This is the level of non-seriousness, being exhibited by the PDD department.”

Locals also alleged that there is also disparity in the electricity charges with some being charged 1.5 rupees per unit, while as others are charge 2 and 3 rupees per unit respectively.

Talking to Kashmir images Assistant Executive Engineer PDD Sub-Division Chitragam Syeed Talib said, “The PDD Employee who was holding the charge of area has been transferred.”

Talib assured that electric bills will be issued as per the meter readings.
