Srinagar: Congress leader Vikar Rasool on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah, alleging that the NC government was acting under the “directives of Union Home Minister Amit Shah”.

Speaking to the news portal in Jammu, Rasool claimed that the National Conference (NC) had a “hidden alliance” with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and that Omar Abdullah’s government “could not survive a single day without Amit Shah’s support.”

“The NC has an understanding with the BJP. Without Amit Shah’s wish, Omar Abdullah’s government can’t stand even for a day. They have deceived Congress many times. I had warned the party leadership when I was JKPCC president, but now the leadership has understood the game plan of Omar and Farooq Abdullah,” Rasool said, according to news agency KINS.

He alleged that the NC deliberately fielded its candidates against the Congress in the Lok Sabha elections in Ladakh to divide the secular vote.

“Similarly, during campaigning, Omar Abdullah did not even mention Lal Singh’s name once. When Harsh Dev Singh decided to contest from Nagrota, the Congress decided not to field its candidate. However, the NC entered the fray only to divide Muslim votes. Had NC not fielded a candidate, Harsh Dev Singh—whose party is part of the INDIA alliance—would have won,” Rasool claimed.

The senior Congress leader and former JKPCC chief further claimed that the NC denied a Rajya Sabha seat to the Congress at the behest of the BJP. “Both Omar and Farooq are clever people. They want to remain in the INDIA alliance but take instructions from the BJP,” he alleged.

Rasool also took a personal dig at Omar Abdullah, saying he owed his political rise to his family lineage rather than merit. “Omar Abdullah would not have even won a Sarpanch election had he not been the scion of the Sheikh family. He won only because he is the son of Farooq Abdullah and the grandson of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah,” Rasool said.

He accused the Chief Minister of failing to deliver on promises made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “Omar Abdullah has already lost three elections in the past and should stop pointing fingers at others,” Rasool added. (KINS)
