Narcotics seized in Srinagar; 6 drug peddlers arrested

Srinagar: Police in Srinagar have seized large quantities of banned narcotic substances and arrested multiple individuals in connection with drug trafficking.

A police spokesperson said the seizures were made in a series of coordinated operations across the city, resulting in the registration of multiple FIRs.

Sharing details, spokesperson said Police Station Shalteng recovered 36.770 kg of marijuana (Ganja) from a residence in Dilawar Colony, Mujgund. Two persons — Jehangir Ahmad Dar and Mohammad Rafiq Dar, sons of Late Abdul Rehman Dar, have been arrested in this case (FIR No. 75/2025) under relevant sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

In a separate case under the same FIR No. 75/2025 of NDPS Act, police recovered an additional 11.500 kg of marijuana from the attic of a cowshed at the residence of Mohammad Altaf Dar, son of Ghulam Ahmad Dar, resident of Dilawar Colony. The drug peddler was arrested on the spot.

Police Station Panthachowk seized a “substantial quantity” of Clonazepam — banned psychotropic drug — from Maqsood Ahmad Mir of Balhama. The accused person stands arrested in case FIR No. 78/2025 under NDPS Act.

Police Station Nowgam recovered 16 kg of cannabis concealed in three rice bags from Khazir Mohammad Sheikh of Ganie Mohalla, Wagoora. In this connection, a case FIR No. 155/2025 under section 8/20 NDPS Act stands registered and the drug peddler has been arrested, police said.

In case FIR No. 156/2025, Mehraj-ud-din Ganie, resident of Ganie Mohalla, Wagoora, was apprehended with 15 kg of cannabis powder stored in a blue plastic drum. The drug peddler has been arrested in the instant case.

All six individuals have been arrested and further investigation is ongoing to uncover forward and backward linkages, police said.
