Rajouri: Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Rajouri, has strongly condemned attempts to malign the institution’s image, particularly at a time when the admission process is underway.

The university fraternity described the campaign as baseless and misleading, stressing that it undermines the “remarkable progress” made across academic and administrative fronts in recent months.

Officials noted that since Abhishek Sharma, Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, assumed additional charge as Registrar eight months ago, the university has entered a phase of “transformative growth and renewal” aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

In this period, BGSBU has introduced 27 new undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, set up six new departments, and launched four-year UG courses with multiple entry–exit options. Cutting-edge courses in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Tourism, and Management have also been rolled out across diploma, UG, PG, and Ph.D. levels.

This expansion has led to a surge in admissions, with more than 1,000 students enrolling in various programmes this year — a development the administration says reflects growing confidence among students and parents in the university’s academic ecosystem.

BGSBU has also introduced field-based experiential learning. In collaboration with the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), students recently visited major tunnel projects to gain hands-on industry exposure.

The university has established a Centre for Research in Gojri, Pahari, and Kashmiri Languages, and launched new MA and BA courses in these disciplines to safeguard the region’s linguistic and cultural heritage.

On the governance front, BGSBU has fully adopted the Samarth ERP system, enabling end-to-end digitalization of admissions, examinations, and student services.

Financially, the university has secured ₹20 crore under RUSA for strengthening academic and physical infrastructure, and ₹2 crore under CAPEX for smart classrooms. Renovation of hostels, faculty quarters, and academic blocks is underway, while a new academic block has already been constructed to accommodate rising student intake.

For the first time, smart classrooms equipped with interactive panels and modern teaching aids are being established across departments.

BGSBU has set up a Startup Cell, an Entrepreneurship Development Cell, a Tinkering Lab, and an Institutional Innovation Council. The university also hosted its first-ever Startup Hackathon to encourage creativity and problem-solving among students.

A 1 MW solar project in collaboration with the J&K Science and Technology Department and JKEDA is in progress, positioning BGSBU on the path to becoming a carbon-neutral campus.

The university has rolled out several initiatives for women’s empowerment, including a 50% fee concession for the only girl child and for the top two meritorious female students. Coaching for civil services is also being provided to 30 girls under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme.

Other measures include RFID-enabled ID cards for enhanced security, a comprehensive induction programme addressing mental health and drug abuse awareness, and incentives to support holistic student growth.

Rejecting what it called “false and malicious propaganda,” the BGSBU fraternity urged stakeholders not to be misled.

“Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University reaffirms its commitment to excellence, innovation, inclusivity, and transparency. We call upon all stakeholders to continue their faith in BGSBU’s mission of shaping responsible, skilled, and socially conscious citizens prepared to lead in a rapidly evolving world,” the university said in a statement.
