Beerwah: In a landmark development for healthcare delivery in Budgam district, a state-of-the-art Dräger Anaesthesia Workstation was inaugurated today at Sub District Hospital (SDH) Beerwah. To mark the occasion, a 65-year-old high-risk female patient was successfully operated upon, showcasing the advanced capabilities of the newly commissioned workstation.

The surgery was performed by a skilled team comprising Dr. Arif Vakil (Consultant Anaesthesia) and Dr. Irshad (Surgeon), supported by Aga Shameem, Showkat Gul, and Nelofar, who provided crucial technical and nursing assistance. The patient tolerated the procedure well, reflecting the enhanced safety and monitoring ensured by the new system.

Speaking on the occasion, officials highlighted that this achievement was made possible under the visionary leadership of Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr. Jahangir Bakshi, whose persistent focus on upgrading infrastructure in peripheral hospitals is bridging critical healthcare gaps.

Acknowledgment was also extended to Chief Medical Officer Budgam, Dr. Gulzar Ahmad, for his administrative and technical support, which proved instrumental in establishing the facility at Beerwah.

At the institutional level, Block Medical Officer (BMO) Beerwah, Dr. Arshad Ali, played a pivotal role in coordinating the commissioning of the workstation and motivating the surgical team. His on-ground supervision and commitment ensured the seamless execution of this milestone event.

It is pertinent to mention that the workstation was earlier supervised and monitored by a dedicated team of doctors, including Dr. Gul Mohammed, Dr. Intikhab, Dr. Farooq, Dr. Fayaz, and Dr. Nausheen, whose contributions laid the foundation for its successful commissioning and present-day utilization.

With the introduction of this advanced anaesthesia workstation, SDH Beerwah is now better equipped to handle high-risk surgeries locally, thereby reducing referrals to tertiary care hospitals and reinforcing community trust in government health institutions.

This milestone marks a new chapter in the ongoing efforts of the Health Department to strengthen secondary-level healthcare services across Kashmir.
