Traffic Police vehicles placed on high ground for people’s safety, not our own: SSP Aijaz Ahmad
FacebookTwitterWhatsapp

Srinagar: Amid social media claims that traffic police had moved their vehicles to elevated spots to safeguard them from floodwaters, SSP Traffic (City) Aijaz Ahmad on Friday denied the allegation, calling it “not based on facts” and stressing that the force’s presence remains focused on public service.

“We have placed our vehicle in a high ground for the safety of the people. Clear instructions have been given that if anyone places their vehicle or goods in a high ground for safety, then we have to secure it,” Ahmad told reporters. “Traffic police is for the service of the people and will always be.”

According to KNS, Ahmad said the traffic department had already rebutted the social media post through several channels. “Nothing of this sort has happened… whoever has posted it should delete it from their wall because it is not based on facts,” he said.

The SSP underlined that traffic personnel and equipment, including cranes, were stationed in low-lying areas to assist mobility during rains and waterlogging. He cited the quick response in Peerbagh, where a jam was cleared after vehicles had blocked the road.

On reports of traffic violations and stunt driving, Ahmad said action was being taken wherever incidents came to notice. “Recently, there was a viral incident of a girl bullet rider. We took action and seized her bike,” he said, adding that influencers attempting stunts on city roads would face immediate enforcement.

Regarding the situation in flood-prone localities, Ahmad said: “For the past few days, our traffic mobility has been deteriorating. For that, we have also brought our traffic police on the ground. Till now, the traffic is moving freely. We have not received any reports of any serious problem.”

He acknowledged congestion in Nowgam and Padshahi Bagh on Thursday, which he said was resolved, and confirmed diversions had been put in place at Pampore and Panthachowk following cracks on a road.

A 24×7 hotline (103) and an operational media channel remain active for public complaints, Ahmad said, urging commuters to report problems directly.(KNS)
