Srinagar: The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) and Jammu and Kashmir Power Transmission Corporation Limited (JKPTCL) have announced scheduled power shutdowns across several areas in Kashmir on May 3, 5, and 8, 2025, to facilitate essential maintenance and infrastructure work.

According to the Chief Engineer, Distribution, KPDCL, in order to carry out power evacuation work from the GIS Harwan Grid Station, the 33KV Burzhama Tap line will be shut down. As a result, the 33/11KV Receiving Station at Burzhama will remain non-operational, affecting power supply to Danihama, Khimber, Chatterhama, Telbal, Burzhama, Gassu, Shopperbagh, Rahbagh, Batpora, and adjoining areas. The affected areas will face a power outage from 10:00 AM to 05:00 PM on May 3 and May 8.

In a separate announcement, the Chief Engineer, JKPTCL Kashmir, stated that to facilitate the erection of three towers, along with the dismantling of the existing 0.2 ACSR conductor and subsequent conductor laying and stringing work, a shutdown of the 132 KV D/C Amargarh–Arampora transmission line will be undertaken. Consequently, all 33 KV feeders linked to the line will be impacted, affecting power supply in a wide range of areas including Tanghdar, Keran, Kralpora, Sogam, Handwara, Kupwara, and Machil, among others.

The shutdown for this transmission work will be observed from 09:00 AM to 06:00 PM on May 3 and May 5.

Authorities have advised residents in the affected areas to make necessary arrangements and bear with the inconvenience as the upgrades are aimed at improving long-term power reliability in the region.
