Jammu: In the aftermath of the devastating terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir Congress President Tariq Hameed Karra has strongly echoed the call for national unity made by Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi.

In a statement posted on social media platform X, Karra emphasized the Congress party’s unwavering support for the Government of India in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and integrity.

The statement comes in response to the April 22, 2025 attack at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam, one of the deadliest civilian assaults in Kashmir in recent years, which left 26 people — mostly tourists — dead.

Quoting Rahul Gandhi, Karra posted: “The Indian National Congress stands united with the Government of India at this critical juncture. In matters concerning national interest and sovereignty, we extend our full support to all necessary and appropriate actions. The defence of India’s integrity must remain paramount.”

Karra’s post reinforces the Congress party’s position to prioritize national interest above political differences, calling for collective action in the face of the tragedy. He has previously condemned the attack in the strongest terms, describing it as an “attack on humanity,” and has urged both India and Pakistan to maintain calm and pursue diplomatic solutions.

At an all-party meeting convened by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on April 24, Karra reiterated the need for unity over division, stating, “This is a moment of grief, not of politics. The country needs unity, not division.”

Under Karra’s leadership, the Jammu and Kashmir Congress has proposed sending an all-party delegation to visit the families of the victims and has suggested the establishment of a memorial at Pahalgam to honor those who lost their lives. He also called for the highest bravery award to be conferred posthumously on Shaheed Syed Adil Hussain, who heroically attempted to save tourists during the attack.

As the nation mourns the Pahalgam carnage, Karra’s reiteration of Rahul Gandhi’s message serves as a clarion call for solidarity, resilience, and a determined response to uphold India’s sovereignty and deliver justice to the victims.
