Srinagar: The Director of Agriculture Kashmir Mohammad Ilyas Khateeb today kick-started the sale of vegetable seedlings at Kitchen Garden Lalmandi, Srinagar.
During interaction with the farmers and kitchen garden lovers, the Director said that the department is vigorously enduring to attract more and more farmers and kitchen garden lovers towards the vegetable sector.
The director said that the department is producing seedlings of different vegetable crops in hi-tech poly houses under controlled conditions in all the districts of Kashmir division and the seedlings would be distributed among the farming community of the region in a phased manner so that the produce (vegetables) reaches the market in a way where it could fetch the farmer maximum possible returns.
He said the department is producing vegetable seedlings in consonance with the market demand for the produce.
Khateeb said that the department is working to ensure that maximum area could be brought under different crops during the Kharief season.
To link the produce with the market chain and to maintain its connectivity, the department has already formulated a strategy so that the farmers’ interests could be served and secured, he added.
He said that the Department is committed to producing quality seedlings of different vegetable crops, as quality seedling plays a key role in the overall success of an agriculture enterprise.
The Director of Agriculture was accompanied by the Joint Director of Agriculture (ext) Sartaj Ahmad Shah and some other officers of the departments.
