Budgam, July 1: As the education department failed to provide books to the students in a Budgam school, the students here complained of facing difficulties while writing their Term-I examination

Exams in government run schools commenced from June 26 and are scheduled to end on July 8. However, students of Government Girls Middle School (GMS) Budgam alleged that they have received no books for this academic year.

Students of the said school told ‘Kashmir Images’ that many among them have not received Math, Urdu, History, Civics and Geography books and thereby their chances of passing the exams are bleak.

“What are we going to write in exams?”, the disappointed students  questioned.

After this paper published story with a headline “Six months on: Budgam schools still without text books” on May 26, education department Budgam provided Kashmiri textbooks to the students of the said school.

Residents of Budgam held CEO responsible for the failure of education department to provide books to the students. “He (CEO) has ruined the education system here. His office lies adjacent to the school, still he has failed to provide books,” said locals.

Earlier, Joint Secretary, Publications, Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education, Arif Ahmed Akhoon, said that “under proper receipt” department has dispatched all the required books to Budgam schools.

Also in May, 2018, Zonal Education Officer, Budgam, Samiya Geelani, had assured that students would be given books as Budgam education department had availability of books. However, only Kashmiri books were distributed among the students.

When contacted, concerned CEO Rouf Ahmad Shahmari said, “Students are lying. We have provided them all the books.”
