National Road Safety Month: Transport Commissioner flags off students rally

ANANTNAG: As part of ongoing National Road Safety Month, Transport Commissioner, Vishesh Paul Mahajan, participated in a series of events in Anantnag aimed at enhancing road safety awareness.

The event featured a flagging-off students rally to spread the message of road safety across the district and build a sense of responsibility in inculcating traffic rules right from minorhood.

In addition, the Transport Commissioner inaugurated a special road safety campaign by pasting stickers depicting crucial road safety measure messages on vehicles. These stickers highlighted essential practices such as wearing seat belts, adhering to speed limits, avoiding distractions and other measures to promote responsible driving on roads.

There were major eye-catching stickers bearing powerful messages such as “Think of Them: Drive Safe for Those Who Love You,” “Slow Down: Someone Loves You,” and “Drive Safe: Save Lives, Your Family Awaits” pasted on the windshield.

Speaking at the event, Vishesh Paul Mahajan underscored the critical importance of road safety and called for collective efforts to reduce road accidents and fatalities. He emphasised the role of society, and media in fostering a culture of safe driving behaviour and urged all stakeholders to contribute towards this mission.

The initiative also saw active involvement from local drivers, youth and community members. This initiative is part of a larger campaign to mitigate road accidents and promote a culture of safety in Jammu and Kashmir.

Later, the Transport Commissioner visited the proposed land for the construction of an office cum driving test track at Zudder.

The Transport Commissioner further reiterated that applicants should use their mobile phones as agents to avail of 54 available online services and not fall prey to touts. Our department is committed to safeguarding the interests of the public in general and transporters in particular, he added.

Regional Transport Officer Kashmir, Qazi Irfan Rasool, reiterated the department’s commitment towards reducing accidents on roads and utilising every resource available to ensure a sense of safety on roads.

Later, ARTO Anantnag held a pledge ceremony among minor students for not taking control of vehicles before the age of 18 or before becoming eligible for driving licences.
