44th Annual Kashmiri Conference begins at KU North Campus, Delina

BARAMULLA: The 44th Annual Kashmiri Conference, a significant gathering dedicated to the Kashmiri language and its preservation, began today at the North Campus of Kashmir University in Delina.

Organized by Adbi Markaz Kamraz (AMK), this year’s conference is exploring the theme “Artificial Intelligence and the Future of the Kashmiri Language,” underscoring how emerging technologies can contribute to the preservation, promotion, and modernization of Kashmiri.

The inaugural session was presided over by the renowned literary figure Shaad Ramzan, with Nazir Ahmad Ganie, Vice Chancellor of SKUAST, as the Chief Guest.

Vice Chancellor highlighted the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) to bridge generational divides, making the Kashmiri language more accessible and relevant in an increasingly digital world. He emphasized that the collaboration between AI and linguistic efforts can open new pathways for revitalizing and sustaining Kashmiri language and culture.

Advocate Irfan Hafeez Lone, Member of the Legislative Assembly for Wagoora-Kreeri, addressed the audience, emphasizing the importance of technology in preserving cultural heritage. He expressed his support for AMK’s mission and underscored the role of legislative backing in fostering initiatives aimed at promoting the Kashmiri language through modern tools.

Dr. Rafiq Masoodi, Patron of Adbi Markaz Kamraz, delivered a keynote address, emphasizing the need for AMK to lead in harnessing technology for cultural preservation. He shared his vision of how AI can be used to create learning tools, digital archives, and interactive resources that will support Kashmiri language learners worldwide.

Dr. Masoodi’s remarks reflected his commitment to AMK’s mission and the urgency of integrating modern technology to ensure the language’s survival.

The event also featured notable attendees, including Ali Mohammad Aseer Kastiwari, former Director General of Treasuries, Dr. Sohan Lal Koul, and Dr. Qazi Khursheed Ahmad, a senior faculty member. Their participation underscored a broad commitment to exploring how AI-driven initiatives can contribute to the cultural and educational infrastructure surrounding Kashmiri.

Mohammad Amin Bhat, President of AMK, delivered a welcome address, acknowledging the dedication of attendees and highlighting AMK’s commitment to innovation in Kashmiri language promotion.

 The conference is set to continue tomorrow, with sessions dedicated to exploring specific AI applications, such as machine translation, voice recognition, and digital learning platforms, all tailored to support Kashmiri.
