Dressed in a traditional Kashmiri outfit, her wrinkled face lit up with pride as she expressed her wish for peace and prosperity in the region. After casting her vote, she shared her concerns with the media, lamenting the reduction in ration supplies over the years.

“I used to receive 15 kg of rice; now it’s only 5 kg. There’s no supply of sugar, kerosene oil, or flour anymore,” Lasi Begum rued. “I have always voted, but this time, it might be my last vote. Still, I didn’t want to miss this opportunity.”

Despite her physical ailments, Lasi Begum was resolute in her hope for a better future. “Though I was ailing, I prayed for the dignity and honor of all the youth, including my sons,” she said.

The centenarian also called for concessions in electricity bills and a steady, adequate supply of essential rations to support the elderly and those in need.

As she left the polling station, her words resonated deeply with those present, highlighting the strength of spirit and unwavering faith in democracy that continues to inspire generations.
