Anantnag: All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Ghulam Ahmad Mir on Saturday said that people are suffering badly on account of lack of basic facilities, especially the shortage of drinking water in the midst of the simmering summer, lack of irrigation facilities coupled with poor supply of electricity besides lack of development at the grassroots level.

“The prolonged absence of democratic process and the elected Govt, besides the delay in restoring statehood to J&K reflects BJP’s failures, desperation for power and lack of concern for the wellbeing of the people, who have been suffering enormously on every count. Despite brewing resentment and disappointment among the public, Centre Govt doesn’t want democracy to flourish in J&K,” said Mir.

He made these comments while addressing a Party worker’s meeting at Luk Bhawan Larkipora area of Dooru Segment in South Kashmir.

Mir said this is unfortunate despite knowing that the public is suffering badly in the absence of an elected Govt and the disconnect between them and the administration, Centre doesn’t want people to have their elected Govt, which could listen and address their issues and represent them at every required forum. Mir termed the J&K political situation as unprecedented and asked the Centre to restore statehood before the Assembly elections without any further delay.

“We are surprised as to why the BJP is shying away from the democratic process even after the Abrogation of Art 370, besides dividing J&K into two UTs. The reality is that BJP will not achieve anything in the Assembly elections given their politics of deceit, betrayal and the mismanagement of J&K affairs,” Mir added.

AICC General Secretary expressed grave concern over the scarcity of drinking water, and lack of irrigation facilities in the midst of the simmering summer, besides many other important issues like joblessness and lack of development.

Mir urged the LG Govt to take effective measures to address local developmental public issues.

Those who addressed the meeting included Mohd Iqbal Mir, DCC President Ali Mohd Mantoo, Satnam Kour Gen Secy Mahila Congress, Tariq Ahmad Dar BP Shahabad and others.

Meanwhile, Mir expressed anguish and deep shock over the tragic road accident in which eight members of a family lost their lives after their vehicle plunged into a deep gorge on Kishtwar Marwah Road near Sinthan and termed the incident unfortunate & heart-wrenching.

Mir expressed heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family, and relatives of the deceased and shared their grief.
