The drive was inaugurated by the Principal of Islamia College, Professor (Dr.) Tehmina Yousuf, who planted the first sapling. In her inaugural speech, Professor Yousuf highlighted the critical role of trees in capturing carbon dioxide, providing water, and maintaining the Earth’s temperature balance. She stressed the importance of student and faculty involvement in making the campus greener, emphasizing that such efforts are vital in the fight against climate change.

The event was organized by the Botany Department, headed by Dr. Showket Yousuf Beigh, along with the ECO Club, convened by Dr. M.D. Bhat. Both expressed their gratitude to the college principal and SBI officials for their support in providing opportunities for the college community to participate in this significant environmental initiative.

Selected indigenous plant species were added to the college’s botanical garden, enhancing its diversity and ecological value. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across various academic disciplines and college staff. Beyond tree planting, the participants engaged in informative discussions and activities focused on the importance of ecological conservation.

The “Plant for Mother Nature” drive at Islamia College not only contributed to the greening of the campus but also raised awareness about the substantial implications of environmental conservation. The collaborative effort stands as a testament to the power of community involvement in addressing global environmental challenges.
