The demonstration took place near the party’s head office at Sheikh Bagh, Srinagar. The police, however, prevented the protesters from marching towards Lal Chowk. Party’s State Secretary and Chief Spokesperson, Muntazir Mohiuddin, District President Srinagar Noor Mohammad Sheikh and other prominent leaders also were part of this protest event.

The protesters chanted slogans against the LG administration, blaming it for subjecting people to suffering by imposing unfair electricity bills and preparing to install smart water meters in Kashmir.

Later, speaking to reporters, Muntazir Mohiuddin stated, “This protest was organised by the party workers from Srinagar city to highlight the people’s sufferings due to the rise in electricity tariffs and the government’s intention to install smart water meters in the valley.”

He further added, “The administration is imposing great hardship on residents, who mostly live hand to mouth and cannot afford high electricity and water bills.”

Muntazir warned that “if the government does not reduce the power tariff and abandon the plan to install smart water meters, Apni Party will extend the protests across the valley.”
