Justice Ranjan Gogoi attends Mega Legal Services and Awareness Camp

JAMMU,  JUNE 19: Supreme Court Judge, Justice Ranjan Gogoi, who is also the Executive Chairman, National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) attended a Mega Legal Services and Awareness Camp held at Mishriwala on Tuesday.

The day-long camp was organized by District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Jammu in collaboration with the District Administration under the directions of National Legal Service Authority (NALSA), J&K High Court Legal Services Committee and J&K State Legal Services Authority.

Prominent among others who attended the camp were Judge, J&K High Court Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey (Member, NALSA & Chairman, J&K High Court Legal Services Committee), Divisional Commissioner Jammu Hemant Kumar Sharma, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Jammu, Vinod Chatterjee Koul (Chairman , DLSA), Deputy Commissioner Kumar Rajeev Ranjan, along with senior functionaries of Legal Authorities, District Administration and various departments.

The camp was organized on the concept envisaged by NALSA as an outreach initiative for legal awareness and empowerment as per the vision of the Executive Chairman NALSA, Judge Supreme Court of India Justice Ranjan Gogoi.

To achieve the objective of social justice for all, an endeavour was made to ensure the availability of benefits to the people especially from economically, socially and educationally backward areas.

During the camp, a total number of 597 beneficiaries identified by Para Legal Volunteers were benefitted under various Central and State sponsored schemes included ICDS (Ladli Beti), Ujjwala Yojana, Swachh Bharat Mission, PMAY, PMSBY, Jan Dhan Yojana, NULM, PMEGP, ISSS, SCA to SCP, Sobhagya, Soil Health Cards, KCC, JSY, Disability Certificates, Scholarships to students, CSS on Blue Revolution, MGNREGA, PMJJBY, Save the Girl Child, Handloom Schemes, Red Cross beneficiaries and many alike.

On the occasion, 7 victims of border firing/shelling whose cattle or property had been damaged were also given compensation as part of relief and rehabilitation. In addition, prosthetic aid in the shape of 9 wheelchairs and 8 hearing aids were also given to the identified beneficiaries.

Justice Ranjan Gogoi also inspected the informative stalls installed by various departments. including Social Welfare, Rural Development, Floriculture, Animal Husbandry, Sheep Husbandry, Handlooms, Horticulture, ICDS, Education and others along with organizations like Team Jammu, DLSA, Jammu, Bachpan Bachao, HPCL, ICPS besides J&K Bank, SBI, PNB, HDFC, J&K Grameen Bank, ICICI Bank, Canara Bank displaying the schemes and programmes undertaken by them for the welfare of the people.

On the sidelines of the camp, the NALSA theme song was also played along with audio-visual clips about the development of the legal service institutions in the Post- Independence period and of a legal services camp at Silchar, Assam.

The welcome address was presented by Principal District & Sessions Judge Vinod Chatterji Koul and the proceedings were conducted by Sub-Registrar and Secretary, DLSA Jammu, Swati Gupta.

Pertinently, a Legal Awareness Camp and Law Fair on the similar lines was  organized at SKUAST-Jammu, R.S. Pura by District Legal Services Authority, Jammu on Feb. 17, 2018 under the guidelines of NALSA as an outreach initiative for legal consciousness and empowerment as envisioned by the Executive Chairman, NALSA, Judge, Supreme Court of India, Justice Ranjan Gogoi.

The programme was inaugurated by Judge, J&K High Court, Justice Ali Mohammed Magrey in the presence of J&K High Court Judge, Justice M K Hanjura. A total number of 18 government departments and organizations had displayed the schemes and programmes by installing stalls for the welfare of the people. The camp/fair was first of its kind initiative undertaken in the state of J&K for creating legal consciousness and awareness. A large section of the public got benefits from the same.
