Karbalaie strongly condemns assassination of Shujaat Bukhari
FacebookTwitterWhatsapp

Srinagar: Senior Congress Leader from Ladakh and Member Legislatively Assembly Kargil, Haji Asgar Ali Karbalaie, has strongly condemned the assassination of Senior Journalist and Chief Editor Rising Kashmir Syed Shujaat Bukhari and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family.

In a press release issued here Karbalaie said that the killing of Bukhari was a new low in a rapidly deteriorating environment for media practitioners in Kashmir, in particular, and in the country in general. “He was a voice of reason in Kashmir and a brilliant journalist who pandered to no extremes. He did his job honorably till his last breath and paid the price of being upright,” Karbalaie has said.

Karbalaie further alleged that the BJP-PDP led government has failed on all fronts in ruling Jammu and Kashmir and not bothered to protect the life and property of the common masses. “The primary responsibility of the government is to protect the lives and dignity of its people. Every right thinking individual whether it’s the civil society, mainstream opposition leaders or the religious leaders all have spoken against government’s inability to tackle the continuous spree of killings and still nothing concrete has been achieved by the government so far and they seem to be on a mute mode,” he added.

Karbalaie further urged the governments of India and Pakistan to find a permanent solution for the long standing Kashmir issue stating that the time had come when the bloodshed must stop, and peace must be restored.
