Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Women’s Wing Provincial President Er. Sabiya Qadri on Monday called for holding simultaneous elections to both the Lok Sabha & Legislative Assembly in J&K.

“The wait for an elected government in J&K only gets longer. J&K has been under President’s Rule since 19 December 2018. The last assembly election in the erstwhile state was held in November 2014. We are being ruled by a faceless bureaucracy. India proudly calls itself the mother of democracy, why is J&K without an Assembly?” she said while addressing women’s wing functionaries here at the party headquarters Nawai Subha.

Apart from party affairs and organizational activities, people’s problems and the current political and democratic challenges facing Jammu and Kashmir were also discussed in the meeting.

“Many organizations and self-styled leaders are coming to the fore to divide the voice of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, but success is possible only through unity and speaking in one language. In this case, we have to reject those elements who want to divide us into groups through various tactics,” she said adding that along with the restoration of democracy, the struggle for the return of special privileges can be fought only when the National Conference is strong because it is a public representative party which is the people’s own party and which has its roots in Jammu and Kashmir.

Qadri also said that strengthening the National Conference is the need of the hour.

On the occasion, the women’s wing functionaries paid glowing tributes to their former colleague Rumaisa who left for heavenly abode after a brief illness.
