Lok Sabha Elections 2024: J&K Election Deptt holds workshop for political parties

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Election Department, in preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024, today organized a one-day workshop for political parties at the office of Chief Electoral Officer, Darul-Intikhab, Srinagar.

The training programme, which was attended by representatives of major political parties of Jammu and Kashmir, covered all important aspects of the election process including nomination, qualification and disqualification of candidature, EVM preparedness, Election Expenditure Monitoring, Model Code of Conduct besides media certification and monitoring committees.

The representatives were also apprised of poll day-related Standard Operating Procedures to be observed by them as well as the contesting candidates.

Chief Electoral Officer, Jammu and Kashmir, Pandurang K Pole, who inaugurated the session, stressed upon the central role of political parties in a vibrant democracy like India.

He apprised the representatives of various election-related aspects highlighting the need for a closer liaison between political parties and administrative machinery in ensuring a free, fair and civil discourse both during and after the election processes. He also emphasized on the importance of maintaining good practices and transparency to ensure peaceful and fair elections.

He appealed to the political party leaders, who got training on election-related matters, to be trainers for further imparting training to other leaders of their parties and play an important role in increasing the participation of voters in the total process.

Earlier, the National Level Master trainers, Chand Kishore Sharma and Riaz Ahmed Butt imparted training on several topics including EVM preparedness, issues pertaining to the Model Code of Conduct, Election Expenditure monitoring, MCMC and Social Media.
