Speaking at the campus, Professor Khan expressed his enthusiasm for the innovative initiative, stating, “This exceptional initiative is set to transform higher education and revolutionize the way students pursue their academic aspirations. The faculty of the college is thrilled to embark on this path-breaking journey of transforming education and enabling students to take charge of their learning.”

The “Design Your Degree” program is designed to create an environment of self-discovery and exploration, allowing students to identify their true calling and build a fulfilling career contributing to the knowledge economy. The program’s motto is “Teach to Transform, Educate to Empower & Learn to Lead.”

Professor Abdul Qayoom, Head of the Department of Computer Applications at the college, described DYD as “Joyous Learning, Transdisciplinary Collaborative Learning,” emphasizing its wide scope for incubation, innovation, and start-ups. He added that DYD enables students to build a personalized degree tailored to their interests, goals, and creative spirit.

Mentors associated with the DYD program highlighted its unique feature, allowing students to craft a personalized, interdisciplinary learning experience. This flexibility, they believe, will empower students to choose courses from diverse fields of study, providing a well-rounded education that nurtures critical thinking, creativity, and adaptability.

The introduction of ‘Design Your Degree’ aligns with the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP-2020), wherein Islamia College takes the lead in implementing a four-year degree program with a ‘multiple entry, multiple exit’ provision. The philosophy behind DYD is rooted in the belief that students should be empowered to pursue their passion, fostering joyous learning.

The launch of this groundbreaking program positions Islamia College at the forefront of educational innovation, setting a new standard for student-centred learning and shaping the future of higher education in the Valley.
