The educational event, a part of the Laparoscopic Skill Advancement Program (LAPSAP), is a flagship initiative by the Postgraduate Department of Surgery at GMC Srinagar. Headed by Prof (Dr) Iqbal Saleem Mir, the Department of Surgery played a pivotal role in directing the course, which encompassed didactic lectures and live demonstrations of various advanced laparoscopic hernia procedures for different types of hernias.

A total of twelve surgical procedures were showcased, providing visiting surgeons with a unique opportunity to observe and learn from the renowned senior faculty of the Department of Surgery, GMC Srinagar. Notably, Principal/Dean of GMC Srinagar, Prof (Dr) Masood Tanvir Bhat, extended a warm welcome to the visiting surgeons and commended the Department of Surgery for its pioneering initiative. He expressed a desire for such educational activities to become a regular feature, fostering continuous learning and skill enhancement.

Surgeons from prestigious institutions across the country expressed their satisfaction with the educational activity, acknowledging the nuanced insights gained from the experienced faculty at GMC Srinagar. The event demonstrated the institution’s growing influence as a hub for learning and idea exchange in advanced laparoscopic procedures.

The live broadcast of the surgical procedures on the official YouTube channel of the Department of Surgery added an interactive dimension to the educational initiative. Surgeons from both within and outside the union territory engaged in real-time discussions with the faculty, further enhancing the collaborative learning experience.

GMC Srinagar, particularly SMHS Hospital, has solidified its position as a center of excellence, contributing significantly to the advancement of medical practices in advanced laparoscopic surgery. As the success of this educational program unfolds, it is anticipated that such initiatives will continue to elevate the institution’s standing and promote knowledge-sharing in the medical community.
