Srinagar, Jun 04: Northern Command chief, Lt. Gen. Ranbir Singh, called on the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti here today.

During the meeting, the Army Commander briefed the Chief Minister about the overall obtaining security scenario in particular the implementation of Ramazan ceasefire in the state, an official spokesman said.

He said the Chief Minister advised Lt. Gen. Singh to work in synergy with other security agencies and ensure that maximum relief is extended to people and the hope generated by the ceasefire among common masses is sustained and further carried forward.

Lt. Gen. Singh also briefed the Chief Minister about the obtaining situation along borders in the state particularly International Border and measures being taken for the safety and security of people living in these areas.

This was the first meeting of Lt. Gen. Singh with the Chief Minister after he took over as the Army Commander of Northern Command recently.

Earlier today, on his maiden visit to the Valley, Lt Gen Ranbir Singh reviewed the overall security scenario in the Kashmir Valley.

During the visit, the Army Commander was briefed by the Chinar Corps Commander, Lt Gen AK Bhatt, at Badami Bagh Cantonment on the overall security situation and major operational, logistical and administrative aspects pertaining to the Corps, a defence spokesperson said.

He said they also visited the forward areas in the frontier district of Kupwara where the Singh was briefed by the commanders on ground as regards the operational preparedness.

“During his interaction with the troops, Lt Gen Ranbir Singh lauded their professionalism, sharp vigil along the Line of Control and high morale and exhorted them to remain alert for any eventuality,” spokesperson said.
