Srinagar, Jun 04: Police on Monday said that they have arrested a husband for killing his pregnant wife in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

A police spokesperson said during intervening night of 3-4 May, Police Station Aishmuqam received a written report from one Mohammad Lateef Shah of Hardkichroo Ashmuqam stating that his niece Zulaikha was married to Sadam Ahmed Shah of Amadzoo Aishmuqam three years ago.

“At about 10.20 PM he came to know that his niece has been killed,” he said.

He said on receipt of this information, a case (FIR no. 47 under) section 302-RPC was registered at the police station and investigation was taken up.

“Police party from police station rushed to spot and scene of crime was inspected. The husband of the deceased was absconding initially but later he was traced and put to questioning. The husband and his father initially narrated different stories but after sustained questioning in light of the circumstantial evidences, accused confessed to the crime,” the spokesperson said.

He said the confessional statement of the accused husband Sadam Shah was properly recorded as per the rules.

“The accused disclosed the whole event which led to the recovery of weapon of offence. The prompt action of police aided by professional and scientific investigation helped in cracking this heinous crime,” he said.
