Srinagar: Authorities have demolished a building of a religious seminary (Dar-ul-Uloom) “constructed on government land” in Pulwama district of south Kashmir, a year after two militants were killed there in a gunfight with security forces, officials said Tuesday.
The building at Chewa Kalan village in Pulwama district was demolished Monday night by revenue authorities “under police protection” based on recommendations of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), the police spokesperson said.
“Two terrorists (one local — Aquib Mushtaq of Kareemabad, and one foreigner) were killed in the gunfight with security forces at the seminary in March 2022. The NIA had taken over the investigations of the case after police registered an FIR,” he said.
During investigation, the NIA had arrested the administrators of said Dar-ul-Uloom — Naseer Molvi, resident of ChewaKalan, and his associate Imtiyaz, who are still under custody.
Police said the three-storey Dar-ul-Uloom was built on government land and was lying defunct since the encounter on March 11-12, 2022.
