Mirwaiz welcomes renewed India-Pak truce along borders

Srinagar, May 31: Hurriyat-M chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Thursday welcomed the renewed agreement between India and Pakistan to observe 2003 ceasefire arrangement along the Line of Control (LoC), saying the move will help in restoring peace on the borders.

Mirwaiz in a video statement said the people will heave a sigh of relief if India and Pakistan stop bloodshed along the borders.

“Hurriyat Conference welcomes India and Pakistan agreeing on ceasefire along LoC but at the same internal situation of Jammu and Kashmir needs to be improved given the reign of terror unleashed by local police and paramilitary forces,” Mirwaiz said.

He alleged that even Jamia Masjid which has been the epicenter of political affairs of Jammu and Kashmir was “desecrated by the government forces while dozens of people were injured by pellets and tear smoke shells last Friday.”

Referring to the south Kashmir parts where Army had allegedly vandalized fruit orchards and residential houses, Mirwaiz said the government should immediately issue instructions to its forces to stop ‘hooliganism’.

“Fruit orchards, residential houses were vandalized while people were beaten to pulp. They did not even spare graves and graveyards, I think this is the primary responsibility of the government to issue instructions to its forces to stop hooliganism,” added Mirwaiz.

He said in case the government continues to remain silent on such incidents, alienation among people will increase.

“On one hand government claims that operations against militants have been put on halt, while on the other people continue to face harassment even in this holy month of Ramazan. What kind of ceasefire is this?” he questioned.
