Srinagar: Police have arrested seven drug peddlers in Sopore, Kulgam, Budgam and Baramulla and recovered contraband, and psychotropic substances from their possession, police spokesman informed Friday.

In Sopore, at a checkpoint established at Hib Dangerpora, one Fayaz Ahmad Wani, son of Muhammad Abdullah Wani of Tujjar Shareef Sopore was arrested and 12 bottles of codeine phosphate were recovered from his possession, police said.

In Kulgam, at a checkpoint at Drien Daulatabad, police arrested Suhail Ahmad Ganie, son of Bashir Ahmad Ganie of Brankher Drien, Daulatabad. His search yielded 5 Kgs of poppy straw-like contraband substance, police said.

Four drug peddlers — Zahid Majeed Bhat, son of Abdul Majeed Bhat; Irfan Ahmad War, son of Abdul Ahad War, both residents of Peth-Kanihama; Tariq Ahmad Parray, son of Ghulam Mohammad Parray, resident of Warihama, and Fayaz Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Rahman Dar of Badran Magam were arrested by cops from Police Station Magam. During search, 40 bottles of codeine phosphate and Rs. 13,100 in cash were recovered from their possession.

In Baramulla, Abdul Hameed Mir, son of Ghulam Hassan Mir of Seru Gudwani Pattan was arrested at TCP Palpora Crossing Pattan. During the search, 2.750 Kgs of poppy straw-like contraband substance concealed in a bag was recovered from his possession.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigations initiated, police said.
