A police official also said that the accused were arrested hours after the family of the minor girl lodged a missing report at Police Station Maisuma.

Investigations, officials said, were started as soon as the missing report was filed by a family from the Maisuma area of Srinagar.

He said the victim was traced the same day and a formal case (FIR No. 11 of 2023) under IPC sections 363, 376 and 5,6 of POCSO Act was registered at the concerned police station in this regard, and investigations taken up.

The accused, he said, were arrested on Wednesday evening, and are presently lodged at Maisuma police station.

The accused duo has been identified as Sahil Javid, son of Javid Sodagar of Ganpatyar Habbakadal; and Sahil Yousuf, son of Mohammad Yousuf Dar of Nai Sadak, Habbakadal.

Srinagar police in a tweet also confirmed that two persons from Srinagar have been arrested for kidnapping and then raping a minor girl in Ganderbal district.
