Srinagar: Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik today said that the State has been turned into a police state where every voice of dissent is curbed and crushed by military and police might.

A JKLF spokesman in a statement issued here said that addressing a peaceful protest sit-in of joint resistance leadership (JRL) at Press Enclave Srinagar today, Malik said that the plight of Kashmiri inmates in different jails is getting worst day by day which is highly condemnable.

The protest, the spokesman said, was held to raise voice at the plight of Kashmiri inmates languishing in jails of Jammu Kashmir and rest of India.

Earlier activists and leaders of JRL gathered near JKLF office Abi-Guzar from where they marched towards Press enclave and sat down on a peaceful sit-in there, said the spokesman, adding, later Muhammad Yasin Malik also joined the sit-in and addressed the protesters.

“From 14 year adolescents to eighty year old men to ailing women, are facing Indian wrath in jails and on daily basis many more are being arrested and put in jails,” the spokesman quoted Malik as saying.

JKLF chairman said that India being a signatory to the Geneva Convention on political prisoners has an obligation to respect the rights of prisoners.
