Another prostitution racket busted in Sgr outskirts

Srinagar: Police on Tuesday busted a prostitution racket in Nowgam area of the city, arresting three people and detaining two customers and a sex worker.

“Investigation in the Chanpura case led to busting of another prostitution racket in Nowgam area. 1) Shabir Mir of Charlipora Nowgam, 2) his wife Shazia Mir & 3) Adil Gulzar Hazar of Soura arrested on spot for operating this racket. 2 customers & a sex worker also detained (all locals),” police said in a tweet.

A police spokesman said that one sex worker, a local girl (name withheld) and 2 customers identified as Nazir Ahmad Malla, son of Gh. Qadir Malla of Narbal and Irshad Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Nabi Dar of Narbal have been detained as well.

“The investigation is on and more such raids are expected to be made in the coming days. The general public is once again requested to verify the identity of their tenants with the local police stations and install CCTVs in their properties. People should report any immoral & illegal activity to the nearest police station or at women’s helpline 9596770601, narcotic helpline 9596770550, PCR: 9596222551,” police said.

Last week, police busted a sex racket in Bagh-e-Mehtab area of the city and arrested two men who were operating a prostitution ring in a rented house.

The duo was later booked under the Public Safety Act.
