Srinagar: A civilian was shot at and injured by unknown gunmen in Hassanpora area of Bijbehara hamlet in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, officials said on Friday.

Reports said that one Asif Ali Ganai, son of Ali Mohammad Ganai of Hassanpora Tavela, was shot this evening by gunmen.

He said Ganai was injured in the attack following which he was shifted to Sub-district Hospital (SDH) Bijbehara for treatment.

The area has been cordoned off and a hunt has been launched to nab the attackers, the officials added.

The officials said Ganie’s father, a police head constable, was killed by terrorists in January last year.

“#Terrorists fired upon & injured one Asif Ganai S/O Martyr Head Constable Ali Mohd Ganai outside mosque in Hasanpora Tavela area of Bijbehara #Anantnag. He was immediately shifted to hospital for treatment. Area cordoned off. Further details shall follow.@JmuKmrPolice,” read a tweet by Kashmir Zone Police. Meanwhile, the area has been cordoned off to nab the attackers.
