Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Additional General Secretary Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal on Tuesday said the government is driving people to the wall in wake of the ongoing demolition drive.
In a statement, Kamal said, “Incumbent administration is crushing the poor with the burden of heavy taxation, tariffs, and unchecked inflation. High unemployment and stagnant trade has further driven people to the wall. Prices of essential items, such as fuel and electricity, are unprecedentedly high. As if all this wasn’t sufficient, it has now taken upon itself to make people homeless. We should make no mistake, such demolition drives are part of the larger plan to disenfranchise Kashmiris, Dogras, Gujjars, and others. It started depriving us of democracy and now all they want is to throw us out of our humble dwellings.”
Kamal said that with each passing day, the insecurities of the people are sharpening. “The outsourcing of jobs and issuance of the majority of mineral and mining blocks to non-locals, disengagement of employees, new media policy, opening up of big retail outlets, and manifold increase in tolls and tariffs on public utility services have further deepened the insecurities of our people, particularly youth. The underway demolition drive is another step in this direction,” he said
