VIJAYPUR: Apni Party Provincial President, Jammu and Former Minister, S. Manjit Singh on Sunday demanded the holding of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir so that the suffering of the people can be addressed.
“The J&K is under LG administration’s rule and it has discriminated against all sections of the society without considering their demands as the authorities have drastically failed to work on the ground. It has resulted in a very slow pace of developmental work,” said Former Minister S. Manjit Singh who addressed a monthly worker’s meeting in Vijaypur.
During the meeting, Manjit Singh took a review of the Party’s working and directed the leaders as well as the workers of different wings to work together to resolve the issues of the people by highlighting them before the authorities.
He greeted the people of Jammu and Kashmir and hoped that the “New Year will bring positive changes in the lives of the people who have been suffering under LG administration,” he said.
“The people have no hope with the LG administration which has ruled J&K for the last 4 years. The traditional political parties have remained mute spectators and witnessed the growing concern of the people in general without making any efforts to resolve their issues. However, the Apni Party has gained ground and won the confidence of the people due to its relentless efforts and work on the ground,” he said.
He said that the Apni Party has emerged as a major alternative to the traditional political parties and the people from all the regions have pinned their hopes on the Apni Party President Shri Syed Mohammed Altaf Bukhari Sahab.
“The unemployment has crossed all limits and it is unprecedentedly higher than in other states in the country. The prices of an essential commodity is also out of pocket from the general public, the private sector is also suffering, daily wagers, PM Package Employees, Jammu Based Reserved Category Employees, Anganwadi Centre workers, Home Guards, Rehbar-e-Khel, Old Age Pension restoration seekers, aspirants of different Govt jobs and others are on the roads and Jammu city has been turned into a city of protests due to the failure of the authorities to handle the issues of the people,” he said.
He said that the LG administration should be replaced with an elected Govt by holding assembly elections and restoration of statehood to J&K.
“The people irrespective of any region have common demand to hold elections so that an elected Govt can work for their welfare. You are witness to the developmental projects, condition of highways, toll plaza charges, farmer issues, refugees pending compensation, Displaced Persons’ issues, ex-servicemen’s issues, and other growing concerns of the people,” he reminded and warned the Govt not to warn the employees to report back to their respective places of duty in Kashmir which is facing security related issues following targeted killings.
The Jammu-based employees should be deputed in Jammu till the situation improves and there must be a transfer policy for them.
He also highlighted the social security scheme of the Apni Party that will be implemented when the Party will form its Govt.
“If Apni Party forms the next Govt, we will enhance widow pension up to Rs 5000, will give 4 cooking gas cylinders per year under Ujjwala, will provide 500 units of free electricity in Jammu region during summers and 300 units during the winter season,” he said while highlighting various other agenda and welfare programmes of the party.
