Srinagar: Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday accused National Conference’s vice-president, Omar Abdullah of “disrespecting” the sacrifices made by Indian soldiers during Chinese aggression in Ladakh.

Omar, according to the BJP, “has begun to act like Mehbooba Mufti in order to gain attention as NC has lost its relevance on the ground”.

The saffron party went on to say that NC seems confused and troubled being “rejected by the people” of Jammu and Kashmir.

“Our soldiers sacrificed their lives during the Galwan valley clash and their bravery is known to everyone. Omar Abdullah should talk about Jammu and Kashmir where people have outrightly rejected him. In fact people seek answers from NC and Omar Abdullah for civilian killings and thefts during their rule,” senior BJP leader and former minister Sunil Sharma told reporters while responding to a query on assertions made by NC leader during a rally in Drass a day earlier.

He said the issue of Chinese aggression in Galwan Valley comes under the domain of the Ministry of External Affairs and Omar or his party has no rights or authority to comment on it.

Sharma said Omar should instead look into his own flaws.

On restoration of statehood, the BJP leader said the Union Home Minister is on record to say that statehood will be restored once situation normalizes in Jammu and Kashmir.

“BJP never breaks promises, we do whatever we say. Our worthy Home minister is on record to have said that statehood will be restored once the situation completely normalizes in J&K. Our people should be assured that statehood will be restored at an appropriate time. It may take some time but will be restored and for that we don’t need interference by any other country,” he added.
