‘My Youth My Pride’: Yoga organised at high altitude Gool Village attracts hundreds

JAMMU: Kisthwar continues to remain in focus with a series of sports activities being held in the district under the ‘My Youth My Pride’ campaign.

The Kabaddi matches played in the district today were all about nostalgia as the sport was played to the maximum extent in the past. The crowd thronged the sports field of Chogwan in the district. Bharti Sehnawat presided over the function as the chief guest. More than 60 players fielded in different teams participated in the event.

Meanwhile, a Yoga event was organized at the high altitude of Ramakunda, atop the Gool area of Ramban District. The first-of-its-kind initiative in the area attracted a large number of participants as hundreds of boys and girls participated in the event.

Mohammad Rafi, Principal Government Higher Secondary School Gool was the chief guest on the occasion while Bashir Ahmed, Senior Lecturer was the guest of honour besides, prominent citizen, Salahuddin Naik, who was a special invitee on the occasion.

The event was supervised by the organising Committee of the Sports Council composed of Ajay Gupta, Anil Gupta, and Arvind Satti.

Mementos were distributed at the conclusion of the event.

The district Reasi hosted a wrestling competition under the My Youth My Pride programme with a large number of prospective wrestlers reaching the venue and being part of the competition. More than 200 players consisting of boys and girls participated in the competition which drew hordes of spectators from adjoining areas.

Ashwani Sharma AEE, electric sub-division Reasi presided over the function as chief guest, and Vikas Sharma, vice-president of Badminton Association was the guest of honor.

The winners among the boys in different weight categories at the conclusion were Anil Kumar (70 kg), Mohammad Imran (62 kg), Poolehain (55 kg), Mubarak (50 kg), Jamail Singh (46 kg), Lucky Kumar (40 kg weight category) and among the girl participants Dirsha Devi (46 kg), Anjali Devi (44 kg), Naina Sharma (42 kg), Sonam Kohli (30 kg), Roohi Devi (35 kg), Sanjana Sharma (40 kg) emerged as winners.

Meanwhile, a Fencing competition was also organized in the sports stadium Samba. Sports promoter Krishan Singh who is also Principal, Navodaya Vidyalaya School Danote Samba was the chief guest on the occasion. While speaking on the occasion, the chief guest highlighted the benefits of sports and appreciated the efforts put in by the Sports Council to bring sports culture to the other districts too. He also thanked Secretary, Sports Council Nuzhat Gull for conducting the sports activities in Fencing, Table Tennis, Chess, and Cricket in the district.

The team monitoring the special sports initiative in district Samba consisted of SP. Singh, Manager M. A. Stadium, Jammu, Gurcharan Singh Athletics coach, Manjeet Singh Korfball mentor, Asad Sharma TT Mentor, and other ground staff of sports council. The matches were officiated by Rahul Sharma, National Medallist.

Events in other districts under similar initiatives were in progress when the report was being filed.
