MD JJM inspects ongoing development works at Tangmarg

BARAMULLA: Mission Director, Jal Jeevan Mission, Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, today visited Tangmarg, Baramulla, and inspected various ongoing development projects being executed in the district under the Mission.

Mission Director was accompanied by Chief Engineer Jal Shakti Department, Kashmir, Basharat Ahmad Kawoos, and Superintendent Engineer Hydraulic Circle Sopore, Mohammad Haneef.

During his visit, Mission Director inspected Lalpora WSS at Drung Tangmarg which is being executed under Jal Jeevan Mission at an estimated cost of Rs 1197.52 lakh with 0.75 lakh gallons SR. This WSS will benefit about 1266 households with 10585 souls.

Mission Director directed the concerned for early completion of the scheme with the instant restoration of road cuts wherever required.

Interacting with Pani Samitis at Chanpora Chandilora, Mission Director said that Jal Jeevan Mission is a mass movement of potable water to every soul. He asserted that the village communities must develop a sense of ownership of the projects for longer sustainability.

Mission Director also conducted testing of the water being supplied to the households at Chanpora Tangmarg for its quality. He said that the water testing kits have been supplied to the Pani Samitis across Jammu and Kashmir. These water testing kits are used as an indicator for measuring the chlorine content and turbidity of the potable water.

He also visited Heing Kashmatipora WSS at Kulhama Tangmarg which is being executed at an estimated cost of Rs 940.23 lakh under the Jal Jeevan Mission.

Mission Director also laid the foundation for the raw water source for Heing Kashmatipora WSS project and interacted with PRIs and Village committees.

During his tour, Mission Director paid a visit to Bonichakal Jeelpora and took a first-hand appraisal of the Water Supply Scheme being executed at an estimated cost of Rs 572 lakh benefiting a population of 18 thousand.

Interacting with the locals, Mission Director appreciated the district administration Baramulla for the speedy implementation and execution of projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission.

Mission Director also visited WSS Kanispora where Chief Engineer, Jal Shakti Kashmir briefed him that WSS Kanispora is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1074 lakh which will benefit about 12 thousand souls.

Later, Mission Director chaired a meeting of the Jal Shakti department which was also attended by Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla, Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar, and other senior officers.

Shah took a detailed review of all ongoing projects having been taken up under the Jal Jeevan Mission.

Chief Engineer, Jal Shakti department, Basharat Ahmad Kawoos, said that out of 153 thousand targeted households of Baramulla, 98 thousand have been covered with potable tap water connections under the Mission.

Dr Sehrish Asgar said that water quality is a challenge in some of the blocks of Baramulla which need to be resolved on priority.
